Play-Doh Party and Coloring Station with Horizons for Homeless Children

Join our 2017 non-profit partner Horizons Homeless for Children for come good, old fashioned play! Dig your hands into mounds of colorful Play-Doh and roll, build, and mash to your heart’s (and hands’) content. Then grab a marker and help color a Horizons for Homeless Children giant coloring page!

Horizons for Homeless Children is leading the fight in Massachusetts to help alleviate the trauma and stress of homelessness on children and their families. Horizons provides high quality early education, comprehensive family support services, opportunities for play, and statewide advocacy work. Be sure to talk to a staff member about what you can do to support their mission and get involved!

Mobile Making with Kidcasso Art Studio

Venture into the colorful and playful world of beloved artist, Alexander Calder with Kidcasso Art Studio. Kidcasso Art Educators will work with families and children to discover the child-like qualities that Alexander Calder so perfectly expressed. Learn about Calder’s mobiles and his intricate circus works and create our own Calder inspired pieces. Tinker, play, and create!

Kindness Rocks with Lynnfield 4 Love and Martin Richard Foundation

Kindness (really) rocks. Spread a little kindness by painting a rock with your own inspirational message or artwork. With the help of Lynnfield for Love, we’ll place your rock in kindness rock gardens in and around the Boston area for others to enjoy.

One for You, One for Me Bracelet Making with PJ Library & the JCC Greater Boston

One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me. Our friends at the PJ Library will help you design colorful bracelets with wire, beads, buttons and more. Make something to wear, make something to share!

Gus and his human Harry will be spreading sunshine on the Lawn all day with short, interactive shows for tots and their grown ups. Be sure to write your good news on one of Gus’s sunshine post-its and hang it on his picket fence! Now that’s GOOD NEWS!

Tinytropolis: A Tabletop Community with The Discovery Museums

Join The Discovery Museums to build a mini-city made out of the simplest materials around – cardboard and creativity! We’ll spend the day working together to create a unique and vibrant tabletop community. From schools, to libraries, small businesses, neighborhoods, fire stations, museums and more, join us and add your contribution to the Mini City with a Big Future. (12n-4pm)

Playful Postcards with Follow Your Art

Join Follow Your Art in creating a playful postcard using invisible oil sticks and spray watercolor. Take it home to mail to a loved one to make their day… and remind them to play!

Good play makes sense. Sensory, in fact. Come explore your senses with bins filled with rice, scoops and hidden treasures. Fun for young minds, and even grown-up hands.

Bubbles Galore with Jim the Bubble Guy

Join Jim Dichter, aka The Bubble Guy, for giant floating bubble demonstrations, and good, old-fashioned, make-your-own bubble fun! Our excitement is bubbling over. Yours will, too. (3pm-5pm)

Red Carpet Walk with Wheelock Family Theatre

Strut your stuff with Wheelock Family Theatre your as they roll out the red carpet! Walk the red carpet with prop and costume pieces, then strike your best pose for a photo shoot with friends and family. Post your photos on the Kids Really Rock and Wheelock Family Theatre Facebook and Instagram pages. Don’t be afraid to put some drama into it!

Wheelock Family Theatre is affordable, accessible, professional theatre located in the Fenway. Productions are for all generations, and they offer a full range of educational classes for students ages 4 through 16.

Musical Playground with All Hands Drumming

A Kids Really Rock favorite! Join Tony at his family-fun musical playground featuring hand drums, bells, blocks, tambourines and more. What children love to do most, right here on The Lawn on D: Move, make noise, and make music! 100% child-friendly, but fair warning to grown-ups: Grab a mallet. You won’t want to leave.

Mini-Book Making with Boston Public Library

Words matter. How do you play? With whom? Create a mini-book and tell your own playful story with the amazing staff of Boston Public Library. The BPL has been providing free-to-all access to books, information and programming since 1848. Today there are 25 library locations throughout the city of Boston, including a newly renovated Children’s Library in the Central Library at Copley Square! Be sure to join them at the Rest & Read area for Pop-Up Story Time throughout the day!

Paper Bag Puppets with Family Equality Council and Greater-Boston PFLAG

Every family is different. What does your family look like? How are you the same and different? How do you like to play together? Make your very own Paper Bag Puppet family using colored paper, yarn, magic markers and more. Take them home and put on a show, or keep it to remind yourself that every family is special. And so are you.

Can-Struction Zone with Karen K and the Jitterbugs

 Friendship and Magic Station with My Little Pony: The Movie

Join MY LITTLE PONY: THE MOVIE for the mane event at Kids Really Rock! Gallop over to celebrate the film, which opens in theaters everywhere on October 6th, with fun, togetherness, and friendship. Activities include a coloring station, a kids’ bean bag toss, trivia, a prize wheel, and the “Rainbow Dash”- a kids’ shuttle run. Be listening for Kids Really Rock creator Karen K and her band the Jitterbugs who will perform a special My Little Pony song. See that? “Friendship is Magic!” for kids of all ages!
