Kids Really Rock Activities
Welcome to our amazing array of special activities from our Program Partners!
All activities are available from 11am-6pm, while supplies last and unless otherwise noted.
Inspired by beloved children’s author Eric Carle, children will get their art on with the teachers of Kidcasso through the book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” Artists will create one-of-a-kind fruit and veggie works of art using painted, textured papers and watercolors. Each piece will be uniquely designed, and almost good enough to eat!
Join Tony at his family-fun musical playground featuring hand drums, bells, blocks, tambourines and more. What children love to do most, right here on the Lawn on D: Move, make noise, and hit things! 100% child-friendly. (Warning to grown ups: Grab a mallet. You won’t want to leave.)
Life is better with an attitude of gratitude. Decorate a brown bag for someone you love, then fill it with words and drawings expressing your gratitude for all that they are, and all they mean to you. Give it to them to pay forward by filling it with food items and ask them to donate it to their local food pantry. See? So much better.
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! Grab a hard hat and back it up like a Big Ol’ Truck to the Can-Struction site, where you and your tot can build, tear down, and build again using nothing but cans. Be sure to grab a download card of Karen K & the Jitterbugs’ hit song “Big Ol’ Truck” to take home when you’re done. Take a load off. You can-struction as long as you’d like.
Every family is different. What does your family look like? How many people are in your family? How are they different? How are they the same? Make your very own Spoon Family using wooden spoons along with fabrics, yarn, magic markers and more. Take it home as a reminder that it is good to be different, and it is good to have a family, however you define it.
Spread a little joy with Boston-based non-profit Catching Joy, dedicated to promoting volunteerism and acts of kindness. Of course, kindness starts with kind words. Create a “Words Matter” heart with your own inspirational message and decorations, and Catching Joy will donate them to the Greater Boston Food Bank to bring cheer to their thousands of dedicated volunteers and staff. (2pm-4pm)
With kind hearts and helping hands, we can change the world. Add your handprint – and heart – to the Helping Hands Community Mural. Include a kind word or thought that inspires you. Together we’ll create 3 large murals to be donated and displayed at non-profit organizations in Greater-Boston.(12n-6pm)
Join H2K for Family and Me Fitness Dance Parties throughout the day! We will be movin’ and groovin’ the afternoon away with dancing, games, obstacles and exercises with mommy and daddy. We will end our mini-classes with healthy goals and a little meditation. (11am-5pm)
One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me. Our friends at the JCC will help you design colorful bracelets with wire, beads, buttons..and a tiny piece of fruit or two to keep it healthy (and yummy). Make something to wear, make something to share!
Come see what Bright Horizons at Fan Pier is all about! For extra fun, get silly with Silly Sally from 11:30-1:30!
Good News Gus is back! Our furry yellow friend will celebrate your good news and help you share it with the world! Gus and his human Harry will be spreading sunshine on the Lawn all day with short, interactive shows for tots and their grown ups. Be sure to write your good news on one of Gus’s sunshine post-its and hang it on his picket fence! Now that’s good news!
KB Whirly is a magical, groovy, one-man band stomping out rustic beats on his back pack drum kit – all while blowin’ a harmonica, strummin’ his guitar, and singin’ with charm and humor that’s fun for the whole family. Catch this Parents Choice Award winner on a rove…or on stage introducing the next act!
Who will you play today? Grab a hat, wig or prop and play the part of your dreams at the Take the Stage Photo Booth! Capture the moment from your device, and post your photos on the Kids Really Rock Facebook page. Don’t be afraid to put some drama into it…this booth is brought to you by Wheelock Family Theatre!
All Around the (Musical) Kitchen
“All around the kitchen, Cock-a-doodle-doodle-do… All around the kitchen, Cock-a-doodle-doodle-doo!” So goes the old folk song by the late and much beloved Pete Seeger, and so go we! Stop by the Kids Really Rock musical kitchen and make music using pots, pans, utensils and more! Go ahead. Stir up some good, old-fashioned fun.
Lose your favorite blankie and feeling blue? Too much homework and not enough play? Have no fear! THE MUSICIAN IS IN, and ready to dish out advice…through song! Come visit the Musical Help station where one of our event musicians will offer you their best musical advice through a short, 5¢ song, created especially for you! Humans and problems big and small are welcome. Proceeds will benefit the Greater Boston Food Bank.
